Alexis Mac Allister took centre stage for Liverpool in their 4-3 UEFA Champions League win against Villarreal.
The Argentine midfielder scored either side of half-time as the Reds completed a memorable comeback at Anfield to maintain their perfect European record under Andoni Iraola.
Mac Allister may have scored two goals, but Rio Ngumoha grabbed all the limelight and was undoubtedly Liverpool’s best player on the pitch.
And the Argentine singled him out for special praise for his performances at both ends of the pitch.
Alexis Mac Allister lauds Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha
Starting on the right flank, Ngumoha’s biggest contribution may have been the two assists for Mac Allister and Araujo.
However, he was a constant thorn in the flesh of the Villarreal defenders as he tormented them with his devastating pace and dribbling ability.
“Look at Rio, he was amazing tonight,” said the Argentine via ESPN.
“He made the difference! It is clear the quality he has. Everyone knows. It is easy to say he’s a good player but we’ve to focus on other things.
“He worked really hard off the ball, that is important for us.”
If Ngumoha carries on in the same vein, he is going to become an indispensable asset for Liverpool and the England national team.
