Trey Nyoni Liverpool position: Trey Nyoni

Trey Nyoni was a shining light for Liverpool as they secured a 4-3 UEFA Champions League win against Villarreal at Anfield.

The young Englishman started in a deeper midfield role alongside Alexis Mac Allister, with Ryan Gravenberch stationed as a No.10.

Nyoni kept things ticking in the centre of the park and was one of Liverpool’s best performers on the night as he was withdrawn to a standing ovation in the second half.

And the midfielder has described Mac Allister as a role model after the Argentine emerged as the Reds’ matchwinner with a brace.

In the second half, the Argentine was at it again as he tucked home from close range after Rio Ngumoha teed him up to put Liverpool 3-2 up.

Nyoni feels players like Mac Allister have given him the confidence to go do this thing on the pitch, describing him as a role model.

“We all know Macca’s quality; he’s a World Cup winner,” said Nyoni after the game.

“He’s a top player; playing with him he helps me a lot. He’s one of the senior players that really pushes me and allows me to keep going and do my thing.

“It’s important for a young player like me to have senior players that are role models and I think you can see with Rio, with Koumas, McConnell, when we are on the pitch, they are always there to support us.”

Happy days for the Reds as they continue to march on in Europe!
