Bayern Munich chief says it would ‘be an honour’ to have Mohamed Salah

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has seemingly refused to rule out the prospect of the Bundesliga giants signing Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.

The 28-year-old has become a modern day great at Liverpool, scoring 115 goals in just 184 appearances and helping the Reds win both the Champions League and Premier League.

Salah has hinted at a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid, though, and now Bayern may have emerged as a potential candidate this summer.

Speaking to ON Time Sports [via The Mirror], German legend Rummenigge compared the Egyptian to Lionel Messi and said the reigning Bundesliga and European champions would be lucky to have him:

In my opinion, Salah is the Messi of Africa and of course he has the skills to play for the best teams in the world.

What he [Salah] has achieved can be compared to what Messi and [Cristiano] Ronaldo did with Barcelona and Real Madrid.

At the moment we don’t plan on signing Salah, but certainly it would be an honour to have him.

The thought of Liverpool losing Salah is a devastating one, with his staggering end product playing such a key role in their success under Jurgen Klopp.

That being said, he does turn 29 this year; and if an astronomical offer came in for him, it is easy to envisage Michael Edwards sanctioning a lucrative sale.

As bad it may be to lose such a world-class player, Klopp and Edwards may look at the long-term picture and think a young superstar could come in instead – Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe, for example – using the Salah money to sign him.

It would still be far more ideal to keep hold of Liverpool’s number 11, though, and he will hopefully sign a new deal at Anfield at some point this year.
