‘Both injured’ – Andoni Iraola confirms crushing double Liverpool blow

Liverpool are slowly starting to click into gear under Andoni Iraola as they remain unbeaten across all competitions under the Spaniard.

The Reds went into the international break after a morale-boosting 1-0 win against Bournemouth and will now take on Manchester City this weekend.

All the focus is on the Cityzens after their recent sanctions, and Liverpool will aim to inflict more misery on Enzo Maresca’s side.

However, it looks like they will have to do so without Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo, who both picked up injuries during the international break.

Double Liverpool injury blow confirmed

Speaking ahead of the game at Anfield on Sunday, Iraola claimed both players are currently injured, although he refused to rule them out.

“I think Alex Isak and Cody Gakpo both have had to leave the national teams with injuries,” said Iraola via Liverpool’s official website.

“Now it’s a matter of whether they are going to recover in time to help us in the next game or not. But right now they are both injured.”

The Spaniard will do his pre-match press conference on Friday and is expected to be quizzed on the two players once again.

With nearly four days left to go for the game, Liverpool will hope at least one of them can feature, if not both.
