Could Liverpool sign Arsenal striker to improve competition for front 3 places?

Could Liverpool sign Arsenal striker to improve competition for front 3 places?

Liverpool’s famed front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino have combined for 38 Premier League goals this season. The trio have led the Reds to the top of the Premier League table and are inching them closer to a league title. However, Liverpool’s failings in domestic cup competitions and the Champions League make it apparent Jurgen Klopp’s team needs new additions once more. Football fans are anticipating the return of the Premier League season and can visit Vegas online casino to get a bet bonus before wagering on the games when they kick off again.

Klopp’s squad is ageing and there are at least two players destined to leave in the offseason. Neither Adam Lallana nor Nathaniel Clyne have been offered new contracts making them free agents in the offseason. The club could also sell several players including XherdanShaqiri, Dejan Lovren, and Rhian Brewster.

Liverpool urge to raid the Arsenal

Liverpool could turn their attention to Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the offseason to fortify their front line and add a proven goalscorer to the team. Aubameyang rose to worldwide football notoriety under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund. Klopp managed Aubamyeng for two seasons at Signal Iduna Park and certainly knows how deadly the striker is in front of goal.

The forward’s addition would give the manager further options in attack which the last two seasons have shown Liverpool still need. Aubameyang has bagged 17 goals this term accounting for 43% of Arsenal’s scoring. Adding Aubameyang to the Liverpool front line would not only add goalscoring but pace to punish opposing defences.

Perhaps the biggest reason to sign Aubameyang may not be for his goals, pace, and the depth it would add to the first team. Manchester United are interested in signing Aubameyang and the player’s addition could transform a slowly improving team. By signing Aubameyang, Liverpool would weaken their title opposition.

Reasons not to buy Aubameyang

There are certainly problems with Liverpool signing Aubameyang in the summer. Although the striker’s contract expires in 2021, he is valued at £63 million, which is a large fee for a player that turns 31 in June. Liverpool’s transfer committee is unlikely to okay such a large fee for an ageing player. It makes little sense to add an ageing player to a team that is getting older already.

Aubameyang’s current Arsenal contract pays him £200,000-a-week, according to Spotrac. The striker would become Liverpool’s joint highest-paid player if the club sign him. Although former Liverpool forward Emile Heskey believes Liverpool should sign Aubameyang in the summer, there are more reasons not to add the forward as the offseason nears.

Liverpool’s transfer committee has shown it won’t be drawn into signing a player without fully scouting him and that he fits into the club’s plans. The club’s addition of players such as Fabinho, Takumi Minamino, and Joel Matip have shown the club look to sign players who fit financially just as well as on the pitch. Big transfer moves have only come when the club have needed to spend money and Aubameyang’s age makes him a player the Reds will likely pass on.
