“It is certain” – Thiago set to join Liverpool

The highly respected German outlet Der Spiegel are reporting that Thiago is about to join Liverpool.

The Spaniard has refused to sign a new contract at Bayern Munich as he is looking for a new challenge and he’s been widely linked with a move to Anfield.

The midfielder was a standout perfromer as Bayern defeated Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on Sunday evening but it looks like that game will be his final appearance for the Germans.

The standout paragraph from Der Spiegel‘s report is:

The 90 minutes in Lisbon against Paris Saint-Germain should have been his last in the Bayern jersey. He has been with the club since summer 2013 and has spent more time at Bayern than at his home club Barcelona. It is certain that it will end now and Thiago will move to Liverpool, to Jürgen Klopp. To say goodbye with a Champions League victory would be a fitting conclusion.

Whilst Liverpool have remained tight-lipped about any potential Thiago deal, reports in the foreign press have all but confirmed that the transfer will happen.

Aged 29, Thiago may not fit the typical profile of signing we’ve come to expect from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool but he is a genuine world-class player, one worth making an exception for.

GIven that the upcoming season will be intense in terms of the number of games to be played in a shortened calendar, Liverpool will need to roatate players and whilst they do have a lot of midfielders already, adding another, one as good as Thiago, would be a very good move for The Reds if they can get a deal over the line.
