James Pearce confirms Liverpool duo are ‘expected’ to leave Anfield

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is expected to be a busy man this summer as the Reds look to come back stronger than ever next season.

Having stuttered in what was supposed to be a glorious title defence, Klopp’s side is in need of a summer shake-up in order to refresh the ranks ahead of 2021/22.

Part of the restrengthening looks to already be in motion as RB Leipzig central defender Ibrahima Konate has all but completed his £36million switch to Anfield.

The business is unlikely to stop there however, as Liverpool go in search of midfield and attacking reinforcements.

According to a report from The Athletic and as cited by James Pearce on Twitter, there may have to be at least two departures before any more arrivals can be sourced.

The report states that is ‘expected’ both Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri will depart Merseyside this summer – with the Reds valuing the former at around £20million.

Liverpool could also be prepared to field offers for Harry Wilson, Marko Grujic, Loris Karius, Ben Woodburn, Sheyi Ojo, Liam Millar and Taiwo Awoniyi – who is believed to be attracting interest already.

Pearce goes on to say a ‘couple more’ signings can be expected at the club this summer following Konate.

An overhaul never seemed necessary this summer, simply selling off the fringe players and strengthening wisely.

Perhaps most worryingly the report suggests the club don’t see signing a Gini Wijnaldum replacement as a priority – ruling out a current interest in Yves Bissouma despite speculation to the contrary.

Instead, the report states the club may make do with the return of Jordan Henderson, advanced minutes for Curtis Jones as well as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita – two players renowned for fitness issues.

Overall the rough guide to the transfer activity bodes well for the Reds, albeit perhaps not the glamourous big-name arrival many might’ve hoped for, at his juncture simply retaining key assets and bolstering options is the best bet.
