Keita included in Guinea squad for Africa Cup of Nations despite injury concerns

Naby Keita has been named in Guinea’s preliminary squad for this summer’s Africa Cup of Nations, despite initially being ruled out of the tournament and Liverpool’s Champions League final clash with Tottenham.

Guinea begin their Cup of Nations campaign against Madagascar in just under one month’s time, on June 22nd, with the Reds’ Champions League final with Spurs coming three weeks prior on June 1st.

Keita’s inclusion in both appeared to be in doubt after he picked up an injury in the first leg of Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final against Barcelona at the beginning of May.

The Reds’ medical team initially ruled the midfielder out for up to two months; a diagnosis that was questioned and criticised by Guinea boss Paul Put.

And according to Goal, Put is confident that Keita will be fit for this summer’s tournament after he named the midfielder in Guinea’s preliminary squad for the Cup of Nations.
