Some Liverpool supporters have joked that Kevin De Bruyne’s past allegiances to the Reds made him miss a penalty against them over the weekend.
Jurgen Klopp’s champions drew 1-1 away to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, in arguably the biggest Premier League game of the season so far.
The first half was an electrifying, end-to-end contest, before a far more cagey second half took place.
Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool a deserved first half lead from the penalty spot, after Kyle Walker brought down Sadio Mane.
The Reds weren’t ahead for too long, however, as Gabriel Jesus turned Trent Alexander-Arnold superbly, prior to the Brazilian finishing past compatriot Alisson.
City had a golden opportunity to go in front shortly before half-time, when Joe Gomez was harshly adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area.
While many were expecting the brilliant De Bruyne to convert the spot-kick, he instead fired his effort wide of the target,
One Liverpool fan on Twitter, @ScouserChrisLFC, dug up an old image of a young De Bruyne claiming he supports Liverpool, hinting that he missed his penalty on purpose to help out his boyhood team.

These Reds supporters cottoned on to the theory, also reacting to it in a tongue-in-cheek manner.
You gotta respect him. He put it wide to show he’s against the new atrocious handball rule.
