Liverpool news as fresh update on sporting director search emerges

It’s been a summer of change for Liverpool as a handful of key members departed the club over the past few months.

Arne Slot was replaced by Andoni Iraola at the helm, while a handful of important players like Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson departed the club.

In terms of the backroom staff, Michael Edwards left his role as FSG’s Head of Football Operations. Richard Hughes’s departure was also confirmed earlier this month as he took on a similar role at Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal.

And now, Gianluca Di Marzio has thrown a new name into Liverpool’s sporting director search: Piero Ausilio.

Liverpool want Piero Ausilio

“Piero Ausilio [Former Inter Milan Sporting Director] could go to the Premier League,” said the Italian journalist via Sky Italy.

“I don’t think he’s that far along with Tottenham and I wouldn’t rule out Liverpool, who lost their sporting director, who left for Saudi Arabia.”

Ausilio is one of the most important figures in Inter Milan’s history and was with the club for several years before deciding to move on earlier this month.

Tottenham’s pursuit is well documented, while a handful of clubs across Europe will also be in the running for him.

Liverpool need a new sporting director as soon as possible, as they need to start planning for the future, but it remains to be seen if they find someone new or promote from within.
