Liverpool reportedly ‘explored’ the signing of Leeds United’s £19.8m forward this summer

Liverpool were reportedly exploring a move for Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford this summer.

As many know, the Reds ended their summer transfer window on a very quiet note.

The start of July saw the club officially announce the addition of French centre-back Ibrahima Konaté.

Despite him being the club’s only signing, it has been confirmed that they were assessing a new attacker.

According to Goal’s Liverpool correspondent Neil Jones, the Reds were keeping tabs on Bamford throughout the window.

As cited by Anfield Watch below, their interest never went far with Bamford not happy about playing second-fiddle…

Of coure, Bamford went on to sign a new deal with Leeds, where he would be first-choice striker.

It is understandable given the fact he would be behind the pecking order of Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota.

Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the forward, however, according to Jones, hence his interest in bringing him to Anfield.

The trouble Liverpool had throughout the transfer window was raising funds for any new potential signings.

The departure of Xherdan Shaqiri came late in the window, and Divock Origi ended up staying put.

If the sales of these two, as well as the money accumulated from others came in, then the Reds would have had a better standing in the market.

However, missing out on Bamford is certainly not the end of the world, with the club linked with a number of targets.
