The shocking stat that proves Liverpool’s big-match struggles this season

A shocking statistic has emerged after Liverpool were beaten on the road again this season in the Premier League, after coming unstuck 4-2 at the hands of Aston Villa.

While head coach Arne Slot did turn Anfield into a formidable fortress last season in the Premier League, on the way to a debut campaign title being lifted, the Dutchman also turned the Reds into a hard-to-beat prospect on their travels.

Indeed, the Merseyside giants only lost three games last season on the road in league action, as 11 wins were also collected.

This time around, the form, away from Anfield, is dire, with Liverpool now losing a mammoth nine games on their travels, after being convincingly beaten 4-2 at Villa Park.

On away form alone, Liverpool do not warrant a space in the Champions League next season, where Europe’s elite clubs reside, with a very worrying statistic emerging at the full-time whistle, when dissecting the away day misery in the West Midlands in more depth.

The worrying statistic next to Liverpool’s name

A loss on the road at Villa on Friday night means the reigning Premier League champions have only picked up one point from 27 available when facing the top nine teams in the top-flight this season.

Strangely, that solitary point was collected when Slot’s men travelled to league leaders Arsenal in January, as both teams played out a cagey 0-0 draw.

Other than this goalless affair, it has been constant losses for the dire Reds, with losses to Manchester United, Chelsea, and Manchester City seeing them continually come unstuck in big games, when Anfield isn’t hosting the showdown.

Losing to the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion and AFC Bournemouth, too, who have both had stunning seasons, next to Liverpool’s dire collapse, the worry will be that the Slot’s men will come unstuck against Brentford on the final day of the campaign to give up a Champions League spot.

Their saving grace will be that they’re back on home soil, with the Dutchman definitely a goner in the hot seat, if he didn’t have home results to fall back on.

Slot needs home advantage to pay off vs Brentford

Indeed, while their woes on the road have been well documented this season, Liverpool have been effective on their own patch again this season, for the most part.

Ten wins have been collected from 18 games in the Premier League this season at Anfield, with Slot praying that this home advantage counts for something on a nervy final day.

Keith Andrews’ Bees have beaten Liverpool this campaign at the GTech Community Stadium, as Igor Thiago slammed home a penalty among many other goals in a 3-2 victory, but it’s a far tougher task beating them at their famous home ground.

It has all the makings of being an enthralling final day of the rollercoaster season, with Liverpool’s horrible form on their travels swiftly forgotten about, if Champions League football is finally secured by beating the visitors from West London.

If a win isn’t collected come full-time, Slot will surely be a man walking.
