Liverpool target close to new contract at Lazio

According to talkSPORT, Liverpool target Stefan De Vrij is close to signing a new contract at Lazio.

The Lazio defender’s current deal at the Italian club end at the end of the season but amid interest from Liverpool and Juventus, he is expected to sign a new contract at the club.

After failing to sign Virgil Van Dijk, Liverpool targeted another centre back to improve their leaky defence but they didn’t manage to find anyone, including De Vrij.

De Vrij has been at Lazio since 2014 after signing from Feyenoord for €7m and he has made 84 appearances, scoring five goals and grabbing four assists as well as helping them win the Italian Super Cup.

His new contract is worth just over £50k per week but it’s not all bad news for Liverpool, as the contract as a £27m release clause in it, which could easily be triggered by The Reds.
