Liverpool to hijack Arsenal’s move for Nicolas Pepe

Liverpool are reportedly ready to hijack Arsenal’s deal to sign Lille forward Nicolas Pepe.

According to Foot Mercato, Liverpool have entered the “dance” for Nicolas Pepe. With numerous reports on Saturday confirming that Arsenal had a £72m bid accepted, Liverpool are now looking to scupper the deal.

The source, La Voix Du Nord, as cited by GFFN, says that the Reds have pursued a deal for the Ivorian, with their proposals currently under consideration.

Pepe was sensational in Ligue 1 for Lille last season, scoring 22 and assisting 11 from the wing, and is now attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Back in February, the Lille manager Christophe Galter said, also cited by TalkSport, that

He has to go to a Champions League club. In my opinion, he does not need an intermediate step to go as high as possible. I can see him well in a team that plays in red.
