Liverpool turned down chance to sign Marcos Llorente

Liverpool turned down the chance to sign midfielder Marcos Llorente on a free transfer this summer, with the Spaniard now set to join Atletico Madrid next month.

Llorente was deemed surplus to requirements at Atleti’s rivals Real Madrid, as Zinedine Zidane began his summer overhaul, and a number of European sides had been linked with the midfielder.

Liverpool had also been linked with a move for the Spaniard, however according to Sport Witness via Spanish outlet Cadena SER, the Reds turned the chance to sign the midfielder down.

Llorente’s uncle and agent Julio told Cadena SER that Liverpool were informed of the Spaniard’s availability this summer, but the Reds did not see the defensive midfield position as a “priority.”

I contacted several clubs to let them know what had happened, the conversation that Zidane and Marcos had. One of them was Liverpool, but Marcos’ position was covered and it wasn’t a priority.
