Mark Lawrenson tips Liverpool to maintain top four hopes

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp goes into the final three games of the Premier League season knowing a clean sweep will all but see the Reds qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

After results went in favour of Klopp’s side this week and were topped off by a resounding 4-2 victory at Old Trafford against Manchester United – matters are now in their own hands.

The Reds are in sat in fifth place and four points behind Chelsea with a game in hand over both them and fellow FA Cup finalists, Leicester City.

Now the dethroned Premier League champions head to an already related West Brom side – although Sam Allardyce’s men did steal a point late on in the reverse fixture at Anfield.

Former Liverpool defender turned pundit Mark Lawrenson doesn’t foresee a repeat of the clash back in December in his BBC Sport predictor column this week.

Liverpool’s last three games of the season are all winnable – this one, then Burnley away and Crystal Palace at home. But the reason the Reds are outside of the top four is because they have been dropping points against teams they should beat – they don’t win enough of them. West Brom’s relegation last weekend should help Jurgen Klopp’s side on Sunday, though.

The 63-year-old went on to suggest Liverpool would ‘rather’ face a Baggies side already dealing with relegation and predicted an all-important 2-0 victory for the Reds.

That game at Anfield at Christmas epitomised the struggles at home this season in breaking sides down.

Thankfully those issues seem to have been resolved somewhat of late and when Liverpool next arrive at their L4 home there will be 10,000 supporters in situ.

As for this weekend and indeed the final three fixtures, they are simply must-win by any and all means necessary.
