As of July 1st, Mohamed Salah isn’t officially a Liverpool player.
Not much needs to be said about the Egyptian King, who will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest players in Anfield history.
However, his time at the club ended rather unceremoniously as Liverpool finished trophyless after his public fallout with then-manager Arne Slot.
Nevertheless, he was given an emotional farewell as Anfield rose to celebrate a player who made them believe once again.
And now, if reports are to be believed, Al-Ahli have made an enquiry to sign him on a free transfer.
Salah wanted by Al-Ahli after Liverpool departure
Salah has long been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia as he is the greatest Arab player of the current generation.
Snapping him up would add another superstar to the Saudi Pro League, and that appears to be the plan.
According to Sky Sports CH, Al-Ahli have made an enquiry for Salah as they remain on the lookout for a replacement for Riyad Mahrez.
Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi – a one-time Liverpool transfer target – is also on their radar.
However, as we mentioned earlier, the appeal to sign Salah goes far beyond just his ability, which is probably why it makes sense for all parties involved.
Salah was on around £400k-per-week plus bonuses at Liverpool and the SPL clubs will have no problem bettering or matching that offer.
Salah to SPL inevitable
Salah’s move to Saudi has been a question of when rather than if after the SPL boom in recent years.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival changed the game, and now, Salah’s move to that part of the world would be another massive statement of intent.
The Egyptian maestro endured an underwhelming season by his lofty standards but still managed to record 10 goals and nine assists across all competitions.
He still has plenty of football left in the tank and has already scored once at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Salah’s full focus will be on the competition as Egypt prepare to take on Australia tomorrow in the Round of 32. He suffered an injury in the group stages but is back in training, so it remains to be seen if he’s fully fit for the game.
After his commitments with the national team, we are likely to hear more about his future.
Salah called time on his Liverpool career this summer, but it goes without saying that Liverpool fans across the world will follow the twilight years of his career closely regardless of where he ends up.
