Liverpool are being sued for £1.1m by sports sponsorship agency Winlink, according to a report from SBC News.
Winlink claim that one of their senior executives introduced Liverpool officials to BetVictor, with whom the Reds went on to sign a £15m sponsorship deal with – the bookmaker now sponsors all of Liverpool’s training kits.
Liverpool have, as per SBC News, refuted these claims, saying that the club’s former Head of Global Partnerships Rafaella Valentino struck the deal himself, as he is a personal friend of BetVictor’s Chief Executive Officer Andreas Meinrad.
Andrew Sutcliffe QC, representing Winlink, claimed that Liverpool had not kept up to their terms of an agreement to compensate Winlink for making any introductions that lead to a deal being signed.
However, Robert Anderson QC, representing Liverpool, said that Winlink’s introduction had taken place two-and-a-half years before the Reds negotiated a deal with BetVictor and that the resulting sponsorship agreement did not come following that initial introduction.
