Pundit tips Reds target Donyell Malen to become ‘sensation’ at Euro 2020

Former Holland midfielder Wesley Sneijder has tipped reported Liverpool target Donyell Malen to become a sensation during the European Championships.

The Reds have been tentatively linked with a move for the Dutch forward this summer to bolster the attacking ranks.

This interest followed an incredible rise to prominence for the 22-year-old at PSV Eindhoven during 2020/21.

Now, Sneijder has told Voetbal International that this tournament could be another chance to burst onto the world stage.

I think he’s a really great striker. I really think that if he gets the chance to play, he could become a sensation for this European Championship. I’m really charmed by that boy. You see that every time (Memphis and Malen) play together, they look for each other. They also get on well with each other. There’s a lot of movement with those two in the front. And I would rather opt for movement, with two players who can dive into the spaces, than a static striker.

A former Arsenal youth prospect, Malen netted 27 goals and registered 11 assists in 45 appearances last term – including five Europa League strikes.

Capped nine times at senior level by the Netherlands, the versatile forward could be in line to feature alongside ex-Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum tonight against Ukraine.

Capable of operating across a number of attacking positions, signing Malen would certainly add options to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Credited with boasting a plethora of attacking attributes, singing the PSV prospect could prove to be a long-term investment with plenty of rewards.

With a perceived market value of £27million and under contract until 2024 (Transfermarkt), the Reds would have to dig deep in order to land the Dutchman.

That said, Klopp is certainly on the lookout for more quality strength in depth, something Malen would provide in bundles.
