Roy Keane takes aim at England and Southgate over Liverpool stars inclusion in Euros squad

Yesterday saw England play out their final game before heading for this years European Championship.

The Three Lions were triumphant over Romania with a 1-0 win to set them up for the tournament next week.

After Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury against Austria, the 22-year-old had to pull out of the squad.

This has left just Reds captain Jordan Henderson as the only Liverpool representative in the England squad.

However, according to pundit Roy Keane, Henderson shouldn’t even be in the squad.

Following yesterday’s win over Romania, Keane stated on ITV that he shouldn’t be involved due to his fitness…

Obviously, Henderson has been fighting back to fitness following his injury sustained back in February for the Reds.

The 30-year-old hasn’t played a game since, hence Keane’s confusion as to why he has been included.

However, there is clearly things that Southgate is seeing behind the scenes to warrant his inclusion.

Henderson is a fantastic captain for the Reds and has won an abundance of trophies over the last few seasons.

This type of leadership and winning mentality is incredibly important to have in and around the rest of the squad.

His 45 minutes against Romania looked far from a player coming back from injury.

Henderson was straight into the mix and didn’t hold back to step up for the second penalty.

He may have missed it, but that doesn’t change the type of player he is and the influence he has on the squad.

Gareth Southgate clearly feels Henderson’s inclusion is important, and he is right to do so despite Keane’s feeling’s.

matchday.
