Salah to undergo further assessment ahead of Barcelona second leg

Salah to undergo further assessment ahead of Barcelona second leg

Mohamed Salah is set to undergo further tests on Monday on a head injury he sustained during Liverpool’s enthralling 3-2 victory over Newcastle, to determine whether he will be fit for the Reds’ Champions League semi-final second leg with Barcelona.

The Egypt international collided with Magpies goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and was stretchered off with 20 minutes remaining after receiving treatment.

Jurgen Klopp’s side moved back to the top of the Premier League following the victory, two points clear of Manchester City who face Leicester City on Monday evening, but Liverpool’s main concern will be the fitness of Salah.

The Daily Mirror’s Northern football correspondent David Maddock Tweeted early on Monday morning that a “respected Egyptian media outlet” had reported that Salah would miss Tuesday’s tie.

However, according to the Liverpool Echo, the forward will undergo further tests for concussion on Monday prior to the Reds’ training session, and will only miss the second leg if the results show that he was concussed.

Salah scored his 26th goal of the season against Newcastle prior to the collision with Dubravka, and will no doubt be a huge miss for Klopp’s side if he does miss out, as they look to overturn a 3-0 deficit from the first leg at the Camp Nou.
