Liverpool’s Premier League restart is still a few weeks away but the fitness of two players ahead of The Reds’ first game back will be worth monitoring
Midfielder Gini Wijnaldum and winger Xherdan Shaqiri both sat out of Liverpool’s training game at Anfield as the players played an intra-squad match as they continue to step up their preparations ahead of the first game after the restart, which should be against Everton.
Wijnaldum was in attendance at Anfield for the session, but he did not take part.
Instead he sat alone in the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand and watched proceedings, whilst Shaqiri wasn’t in attendance at all.
No reasons have been given for the absences at this time, but given that Klopp will be keen to have his players in top shape for the restart, he’d obviously have preferred to have them both take part in the game.
Still, with over two weeks to go until the Premier League kicks off once again, the duo still have time to get themselves fit enough for selection, but it’s worth keeping tabs on both over the coming days to see how they get on.
