Virals: Host of clubs have ‘made enquiries’ about Taiwo Awoniyi

Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi is attracting plenty of attention having finally obtained a work permit to play in the UK.

Having plied a trade away from Merseyside ever since signing for the Reds as a teenager in 2015, the 23-year-old Nigerian is now eligible to play domestically in England.

This could mean the Anfield club sanction the permanent sale with Bundesliga side Mainz, as well as Stoke City and West Brom ‘among’ those interested in the powerful frontman.

According to a report from Goal, as cited by LFC Transfer Room on Twitter, enquiries have already been forthcoming regarding the availability of Awoniyi.

The Nigerian youth international spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Union Berlin, scoring five and registering another three assists in 21 league outings.

Overall Awoniyi has netted 40 goals in 147 appearances throughout a professional career that has spanned Germany, Holland and Belgium thus far.

Valued at £4.5million and contract to Liverpool until 2023 (Transfermarkt), the Reds will be confident of obtaining a relatively steep fee for the striker this summer.

As Michael Edwards continues to drum up interest in the fringe players, a battle for signatures should help drive up the prices.

Whilst it’s imperative to offload the likes of Awoniyi this summer in order to fund Klopp’s spending on the senior squad, the more cash generated the better.
