Virals: Liverpool face major competition in Donyell Malen pursuit

Liverpool are unlikely to be afforded a free-run at attempting to sign PSV Eindhoven forward Donyell Malen this summer.

Linked with a summer swoop for the 22-year-old Dutchman for some time, the Reds are believed to be considering a move in order to strengthen the attacking ranks at Anfield.

This comes as Jurgen Klopp goes in search of further competition for the highly-worked front three having signed Diogo Jota last summer from Wolves.

However, according to a report from German outlet Bild, as cited by LFC Transfer Room on Twitter, there could be major competition for the PSV ace coming from Borussia Dortmund.

The Bundesliga side are claimed to be eyeing the former Arsenal youth prospect as a possible replacement for Manchester United and Liverpool target Jadon Sancho.

Recent reports have claimed Klopp’s side are leading the chase for the youngster once likened to 63 Premier League goal Alexis Sanchez.

Interest in Malen has increased over the last 12 months as the 10-cap Holland starlet enjoyed a superb 2020/21 campaign – scoring 19 and assisting eight other goals in just 32 Eredivisie outings.

Signing an alternative forward option must be high on the list of priorities at the club this summer.

Despite Mohamed Salah’s continued fine form and Jota’s immediate impact, the alternatives such as Divock Origi in particular failed to meet the standard required.

Malen is clearly an emerging talent improving all the time and with capabilities of playing in a number of attacking positions.

If Liverpool can beat Dortmund to the £27million valued ace it would be a huge feather in the transfer cap.
