Virals: Liverpool ‘offered the chance’ to sign Florian Neuhaus this summer

Liverpool were reportedly ‘offered the chance’ to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus this summer.

The Reds remained quiet during the transfer window despite the departures of Gini Wijnaldum, Xherdan Shaqiri and a host of fringe squad members.

Widespread speculation linked the Anfield club with numerous options, including the 24-year-old German international.

According to a report from the Mirror, as cited by Anfield Edition on Twitter, Jurgen Klopp was given the opportunity to land Neuhaus at a cut-price fee.

Capped on six occasions by Germany, the attack-minded midfielder was believed to previously be valued at around £35million.

Last season Neuhaus scored six times and added eight assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances – earning an impressive average Sofascore rating of 7.07 in the process.

Valued at £31.5million and under contract until 2024 in Germany (Transfermarkt), signing Neuhaus for the mooted £21million would have been an amazing piece of business.

Predominantly an out and out central midfielder, the German ace is also capable of playing in more advanced positions as well as in wide areas.

Possessing a host of key attributes that would make him the ideal candidate for a role in Klopp’s squad, this would be a wise deal to revisit in January.

matchday.
