It goes without saying that Liverpool have issues at right-back despite having Jeremie Frimpong, Conor Bradley and Ronald Araujo in the squad.
The former, in particular, has struggled since his move to Anfield last summer. Frimpong isn’t suited to playing right-back in a flat back four and his defensive frailties have come to the fore a handful of times.
As for Bradley, his injury problems are well documented, while Araujo is a loan signing who is playing out of position.
However, if reports from England are to be believed, Liverpool are keeping tabs on Jules Kounde as a potential replacement for Frimpong, who has already lost his place in the team.
Liverpool interested in signing Jules Kounde
Football Insider report that the Reds are among the clubs interested in signing Kounde, who has lost his place under Hansi Flick in recent weeks.
The French international is an experienced campaigner and is capable of playing at right-back and at the heart of the backline, as is the case with Araujo.
An excerpt from the aforementioned article reads: “The 27-year-old has dropped out of Hansi Flick’s starting XI in recent weeks, fueling speculation that he could seek a move away, and placing high-profile clubs on alert.
“While Barcelona currently have no plans to let him move on, it has been suggested that offers upwards of £60 million could be enough to tempt them into a sale.”
£60m seems like a fair price for a player of Kounde’s experience and ability, so it remains to be seen if the Reds press ahead with their interest.
He would certainly be an intriguing option for Liverpool and it goes without saying that he’d also be an upgrade on Frimpong.
