‘Next’ – Steven Gerrard pinpoints where Liverpool need to improve under Andoni Iraola

Andoni Iraola hasn’t got the credit he deserves after Liverpool’s start to the new season.

The Reds have won their last four games in all competitions and will look to extend that run when they take on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup tomorrow.

Their recent run has certainly put them in a good position, but Steven Gerrard feels Liverpool need to stop conceding too many chances to become a force to be reckoned with.

Steven Gerrard pinpoints Liverpool’s weakness

“As a team and as a unit, they’re still giving up too many chances,” said Gerrard via The Overlap.

“That’s the next part of Iraola taking this side to the next level. I thought they were soft early on in the season, but they’ve got tougher, improved, and got more physical. They’re putting it about a little bit more.”

“So there’s been an improvement, but I still think to get to the next level, they need to become horrible to play against. Even stronger and start giving up fewer chances. That’s the next step for Liverpool.”

Gerrard is right as the Reds have been easy to bypass on the counter and have been bailed out way too many times by Jeremy Jacquet and Virgil van Dijk.

By his own admission, they need to become ‘horrible’ to play against, which was certainly the case under Jurgen Klopp.
