Revealed: Details of the alleged offence for which Sturridge has been charged

A flurry of bets placed on Daniel Sturridge joining West Brom on loan last January have formed part of the Football Association’s investigation into the Liverpool forward, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Reds’ striker has been charged with misconduct for allegedly breaching the FA’s rules on gambling, although he says that he has never bet on anything football related.

Whilst that might be proven to be true, Sturridge could be found guilty if he is found to have passed on information relating to a possible move to somebody who could have then placed a wager on it.

The Echo report that bookmaker Paddy Power were forced to slash the odds on Sturridge moving to West Brom from 66/1 to 5/2 in the space of 24 hours due to a flurry of bets being placed on the transfer.

A day later, the England star completed his loan move to the Baggies.

If found guilty of the charges against him Sturridge faces either a large fine or a possible suspension.
