Van Dijk tops list of most popular shirt names at Liverpool

Virgil van Dijk is the most popular name Liverpool fans have on the back of their shirts, it has been revealed by This Is Anfield.

The Reds started a kit deal with Nike this season, with supporters keen to get their hands on the new strip as soon as possible.

Liverpool possess a host of world-class players, so many of whom are known across the globe, so predicting who would be the most popular in terms of shirt name is almost impossible.

It is Van Dijk who has come out on top, however, taking home the accolade for a second year running.

The Dutchman pipped Trent Alexander-Arnold to top spot, with new signing Thiago third, and Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane sharing fourth place.

This will hopefully be a crumb of comfort for Van Dijk, as he recovers from a cruciate ligament injury.

The fact that a centre-back tops the list, especially with so many other superstars in the squad, speaks volumes about just how special the 29-year-old is as a player.

Van Dijk has to be considered one of the best defenders of his generation, considering his impact at Liverpool and all-round game, and his effortless style brings a level of cool to a historically unfashionable position.

The sooner Liverpool have him back, the better.
