Liverpool dealt blow as Real Madrid are ‘very confident’ of signing Mbappe

Real Madrid are ‘very confident’ of signing Kylian Mbappe next summer, according to 90min.

The Paris Saint-Germain superstar could depart the Ligue 1 giants at the end of the season, with his current deal expiring in 2022.

Liverpool have been tipped to bring in Mbappe in the past, with Jurgen Klopp eyeing him up as a possible long-term replacement for the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

It looks as though Madrid are at the front of the queue to snap up the 22-year-old, however, with this latest report using Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard as examples of players the La Liga side sign when they want to.

Losing out on a player of Mbappe’s ability has to be considered a blow for Liverpool, although Madrid has always appeared to be his most likely destination.

Given the wages the Frenchman would demand, and the fee required to prise him away from PSG, the Reds would always find it difficult to compete, even at a time when they are English and world champions.

There is no guarantee that Madrid will get their man, so a deal is still possible with Liverpool, but surely only a high-profile exit of Salah or Mane next summer would generate to funds needed to sign Mbappe.
