Alisson and Fabinho expected to be available for Chelsea clash

Alisson and Fabinho are both expected to be available for Liverpool’s crucial Premier League clash with Chelsea later this week, according to Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds host the Blues at Anfield on Thursday night, in what could be a key game in the top four battle, with one point separating the two teams.

Both Alisson and Fabinho missed Sunday’s 2-0 victory away to Sheffield United, with the former mourning the loss of his father and the latter still injured.

Speaking to reporters after the match, however, Klopp said he is “pretty sure” the Brazilian pair will be in contention to start against Chelsea.

This is a major positive for Liverpool ahead of arguably one of their most important games of the season so far, with Alisson and Fabinho world-class performers in recent years.

Adrian did well in the win over Sheffield United, but Alisson is still far and away the Reds’ first-choice goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, Fabinho has been largely excellent this season, excelling at centre-back in the absence of the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

The 27-year-old could return to the back-line at home to Chelsea, or Klopp may even use him in his preferred midfield role, again playing Nathaniel Phillips and Ozan Kabak in defence.

Fabinho playing in place of one of them feels most likely, though, with Liverpool more well-stocked in midfield currently.
