Andy Hinchcliffe lauds ‘outstanding’ Curtis Jones

Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones was praised during England Under 21s 2-1 victory over their Croatian counterparts on Wednesday evening.

Jones had fired Aidy Boothroyd’s side into the box seat for what seemed an unlikely qualification from their European Championships group, however, a stoppage-time strike eliminated the young Three Lions.

Despite the elimination, the 20-year-old Scouser was billed as ‘outstanding’ by Hinchcliffe during Sky Sports’ live coverage

Curtis Jones has been outstanding, it’s a wonderfully clean strike – once Jones strikes it, there is only one place it’s going to end up. But it’s a beauty of a strike from Jones. He was put into the team for his first start and has scored a priceless second goal for Aidy Boothroyd.

The attacking midfielder hadn’t started the previous two matches in the group as England suffered back to back defeats.

Given how well Jones has performed this season in what has been a difficult season for Liverpool, not utilising his talents in the opening two fixtures seems a bizarre decision.

The academy graduate has played 30 times in all competitions for the Reds this term, scoring four goals and making four assists – including one crucial strike in the UEFA Champions League against Ajax.
