There is still well over a month to go before the summer transfer window slams shut, but Liverpool have already been involved in a massive saga.
During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, David Ornstein confirmed that Yan Diomande prefers a move to PSG over the Reds and other clubs, which came as a massive blow for Andoni Iraola.
The Ivorian attacker was earmarked as the ideal candidate to succeed Mohamed Salah on the right flank, and he showed his class for his country at the World Cup, enhancing his reputation.
However, since then, the deal hasn’t moved along as smoothly as all parties would have liked, with RB Leipzig trying their best to retain Diomande.
And now, Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on the 19-year-old offers fresh hope to Liverpool and other interested clubs as the Parisians haven’t yet managed to get the deal over the line.
Fresh Diomande hope for Liverpool?
Diomande was the breakout star of the 2025-26 Bundesliga campaign and quickly became Leipzig’s leading man.
Naturally, some of the biggest clubs in the world came calling for him, including Liverpool.
And now, despite his clear preference to join PSG, Romano says other clubs continue to make calls to secure his signature while the Parisians aim to thrash out a deal with Leipzig.
“Paris Saint-Germain agreed personal terms with Yan Diomandé in June but more clubs keep calling to try enter the deal,” said Romano on his YouTube channel.
“There’s no agreement between PSG and RB Leipzig yet, talks continue — up to PSG now.”
Diomande’s preference speaks volumes
Romano’s update is surely good news for Liverpool, as thus far, PSG have been unable to agree a deal with Leipzig.
The Parisians are also in talks to sign Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco, who is seen as a replacement for Kang-in Lee.
The Bradley Barcola transfer saga is another one to keep an eye on as it could directly influence Liverpool.
The Reds are in the running to sign the 23-year-old, but PSG have been unwilling to let him go so far, presumably due to their failure to complete a deal for Diomande.
As for Diomande, his price tag is far too high and he has already made it clear that he wants to join PSG.
So, unless the Parisians pull out of the race to sign him, Liverpool are better off looking elsewhere as this is a battle they are likely to lose.
