Marco Asensio’s agent has confirmed that Liverpool had a bid rejected for the player in January.
According to a report from AS, as cited by the Mirror, the Reds were keen to sign the player after the turn of the year when Philippe Coutinho left for Barcelona.
Liverpool, alongside another unnamed Premier League club, failed in their attempts to bring the Spaniard to the Premier League.
The report claims that the Reds’ interest in the player goes back as far as last summer.
Asensio has been heavily linked with a move away from Real Madrid in recent months following spells in and out of the team.
Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked with the player in the past.
It is yet to be seen whether or not Liverpool pursue their interest this summer, with Lyon’s Nabil Fekir appearing to be their number one target.
A move for the Frenchman is likely to signal the end of their interest in Asensio.
