  • Arne Slot pays tribute to Mohamed Salah
  • Hails him as a legend who impressed from day one
  • Heaps praise on the Egyptian King for his professionalism

Arne Slot has broken his silence on Mohamed Salah’s announcement to leave Liverpool. The Dutchman sat down with the club’s media team this week to comment on the forward.

The 33-year-old dropped a bombshell on the Reds faithful in March, announcing that he was set to leave Anfield at the end of the season. He was cutting short his contract at the club after a tough season under Slot.

Speaking to the club website, the manager said he was aware of Salah’s plans to leave the club. He was delighted to see the praise the winger was getting from his teammates, fans, and pundits worldwide.

The Dutchman added that he has been a fan of the Egyptian winger and he impressed him last season from the first day they started working together. He revealed that the winger was the fittest person in pre-season and his professionalism set the standards at the club.

Slot comments on Mohamed Salah’s final few weeks at Liverpool

Arne Slot hopes to make the final weeks of Salah at Liverpool successful, saying that he wants to win silverware for the former Chelsea man. He said:

“Hopefully, he can make his legacy even more special in the upcoming weeks and months where we still play for something special. But he will always leave this club as a legend because, as I said, the way this club has performed in the last seasons is also for a large part due to what he’s done for it. Scoring goals, having his assists. As I said, as a fan I watched him and that front three with Sadio Mane and Bobby Firmino… everybody is still talking about that, and rightly so.”

The former Feyenoord boss is confident that the subpar season will not affect Salah’s legendary status at Anfield and said:

“And then when I started working with him, I don’t know if it was his best season in terms of numbers, but it was an impressive season because he had the most goals and the most assists and I don’t know if that has happened much with him, let alone with any player in the Premier League. He will definitely leave as a legend of this club.”

Mohamed Salah has played 86 matches under Arne Slot, scoring 44 goals and assisting 33 times. His tally at the club now stands at 255 goals and 122 assists in 435 matches.

Mohamed Salah hit out at Arne Slot earlier this season

The tension at Anfield reached a breaking point back in December, following a chaotic 3-3 draw against Leeds United. Mohamed Salah was reportedly furious after being benched for a series of fixtures, a move that sparked a significant rift between the star winger and head coach Arne Slot.

Despite Salah’s desire to maintain his status as an ever-present figure in the starting XI, he was left frustrated by a lack of consistent minutes during a difficult winter run.

The situation boiled over when the Egyptian took aim at both the manager and the club hierarchy, suggested he was being made a scapegoat. Salah remarkably claimed he was being “thrown under the bus” for the team’s poor run of form rather than being given the opportunity to fix it on the pitch.

The fallout led to Salah hinting at an immediate exit, with the relationship hitting an all-time low when Slot made the bold call to drop him entirely from the matchday squad for the crucial UEFA Champions League clash with Inter Milan.

However, following that high-profile exclusion, crunch talks were held between player and manager to clear the air. While those discussions eventually led to a temporary truce and the winger return to the fold, the scars of that December fallout clearly played a role in the forward’s ultimate decision to call time on his Liverpool career.

For nearly a decade, the “Egyptian King” has been the standard-bearer for excellence at Anfield, breaking records with a frequency that made the extraordinary seem routine.

His decision to move on leaves a void that isn’t just measured in goals and assists, but in the psychological gravity he provided as a world-class talisman who could change a game in a single heartbeat.

For Arne Slot, the challenge now shifts from managing a superstar to architecting a future without one. While the head coach’s public stance has been one of respect and pragmatism, the internal pressure to identify a successor is immense.

As the season enters its final act, the atmosphere at Anfield will undoubtedly be charged with emotion. Every touch, every sprint, and every trademark finish from the number 11 will be savored by a fanbase that recognises they are witnessing the closing chapters of a legend’s story. Salah’s legacy is already etched in stone alongside the likes of Kenny Dalglish, Steven Gerrard, and Ian Rush.
