Gareth Bale says he convinced Ben Woodburn to play for Wales over England, according to the Mirror.
Woodburn, who was eligible to play for both Wales or England, made his senior debut against Austria on Saturday.
The pair, who share the same agent spoke back in 2015 during a Wales game against Holland, where Bale was injured.
I obviously had a little chat with him then to get him on board. We knew he was a great player and are delighted to have him. He is Welsh so he is ours.
The Liverpool youngster made it a debut to remember by scoring a fantastic goal with just over 15 minutes left to play, handing Wales all three points on the night.
Woodburn was born and raised in England, and the Three Lions are believed to have tried to persuade him to represent them but failed in their attempts.
Despite being born in Nottingham, the 17-year-old is able to play for Wales because of his grandparents.
