Barcelona want to rival Liverpool in their pursuit of Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to the Mirror.
The Reds’ interest in Van Dijk has been well documented over the last few months, and the Dutchman was at the centre of a tapping up scandal, accused by Saints.
This led to Liverpool confirming that they had dropped their interest in the player, but it’s thought that they remain keen to secure the services of the Southampton captain.

Van Dijk handed in a transfer request at St Mary’s in August as he attempted to push through a move to a Champions League club, however the Saints board stood firm in their stance that key players would not be sold.
The Reds are said to be preparing a January move for Van Dijk, however it looks as though Ernesto Valverde’s Barca side want to sign the defender too.
Barcelona have been in good form this season and are sitting pretty at the top of the table, but it seems they are keen to bolster their defensive reinforcements with the addition of Netherlands international Van Dijk.
