Barcelona have reportedly ended their pursuit of Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho, with a move in the final day of the Spanish transfer window appearing to be impossible.
According to a report from the Independent, the Catalan giants will make no further approach for the Brazilian international, and will wait until next summer to make their move.
The Reds have been firm in their stance that Coutinho is not for sale, despite the midfielder having handed in a transfer request. He is keen to join Barca but Liverpool are adamant that they will retain one of their most important players.
Bids of over £100m have been rejected by Liverpool as they look to fend off Barca, but it looks as though their efforts will only last until next summer, when Ernesto Valverde’s side make yet another big move.
The Reds missed out on some top targets this summer, but it looks like Coutinho will not be on the move in the near future.
