David Ornstein reveals the ‘major addition’ Liverpool will prioritise as summer window looms

David Ornstein has dropped a bombshell on Liverpool’s summer plans, revealing the “major addition” Arne Slot is demanding

Another summer of big spending could well be on the cards at Anfield, with Arne Slot and Co. splashing out an eye-watering £446m on a boatload of new recruits, before a ball was kicked this season.

Not all of these signings have lived up to their outrageous billings, with Alexander Isak more used to the Anfield treatment room than lighting up Premier League pitches as a bold £125m addition.

Moreover, Florian Wirtz has certainly had his critics, ever since he swapped Leverkusen for Merseyside, with his timid showing in the Champions League against Galatasaray not the performance of a £116m standard talent.

He does have six goals and eight assists, away from this shocking performance in Istanbul, though, as Liverpool look set to break the bank once more in the coming months, to live up to that daring window.

Already, Jeremy Jacquet has been confirmed as an addition ahead of the bumper window, as a £60m deal will become active for the Rennes defender very shortly.

Liverpool are looking to the future with that signing, as they shore up at the back, but the aforementioned Ornstein has now revealed where the Reds other priorities lie on the transfer front, away from bolstering their defensive options.

The position Liverpool is prioritising this summer

A mini reset could well be on the horizon at Anfield, after such a disappointing 2025/26 season to date.

Liverpool have fallen short of expectations big time, with the Reds sitting in an unsatisfactory sixth position at the moment in the Premier League standings, three points behind the coveted top-four spaces.

There is still time on their side to correct this malaise, but the Reds’ masses will be very frustrated with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo in recent matches, with Salah’s five top-flight goals for the season showing off a star who is visibly declining.

Liverpool attacking metrics: 2024/25 vs. 2025/26

Stats across all competitions (Correct as of March 12, 2026):

Goals per game2.301.66
Big chances created (per 90)4.02.5
Shots on target (per 90)6.64.3
Shot conversion rate %18.2%12.1%

Moreover, Gakpo is unreliable down the left channel, with only one Premier League strike put away on his end across his last eight outings.

It shouldn’t come as a shock, therefore, that Ornstein has revealed that a new, winger is near the top of Liverpool’s shopping list, heading into the summer.

He has simply stated, when quizzed on the Reds’ transfer market intentions: “I expect a wide attacker to be signed, like a winger.”

Liverpool have been linked with a whole host of exciting attackers – with RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande springing to mind – so there is definitely some weight behind his blunt comments.

Noted as being firm admirers of Bradley Barcola, too, and with David Ornstein confirming a wide-man is the priority, Anfield is bracing for a summer of ‘jaw-dropping’ business that could see the world’s most exciting talents finally follow Alexander Isak through the door
