England call-up for Solanke will cost Liverpool

Liverpool fans were rejoicing when news broke that talented striker Dominic Solanke would receive his first call-up to the England senior squad during this international break, but it’s come at a price.

The 20-year-old made the move to Liverpool on a free transfer from Chelsea in the summer and as per FA rules, the Blues would be entitled to a compensation fee as a solidarity contribution to the money and time invested in the striker’s development, despite him only making one appearance for Chelsea.

A fee was not agreed and it will be settled an a tribunal in the near future, and Solanke’s call-up will only strengthen Chelsea’s case of securing a larger fee from the Reds, the London Evening Standard notes.

Solanke netted for the U21s in their European Championship qualifier against Ukraine last week and was subsequently promoted to the senior squad along with Lewis Cook and Angus Gunn following a slew of injuries.

Yet to score for Liverpool in his 10 appearances for the club this season, Solanke has been a prolific scorer at youth international level in recent years and the FA are aware of his ability and are eager to get a look at him with the senior squad.

After impressing fans at the U20 World Cup in the summer where he finished as top scorer and won player of the tournament, helping England to a historic victory, Solanke has earned the trust of Jurgen Klopp and could be set for more game time in the near future.
