Former Liverpool star Ronny Rosenthal still believes the Reds are the team to beat in the Premier League title race this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s champions have had a slight dip of late, drawing their last two matches against West Brom and Newcastle United.
They are now only three points clear of Manchester United at the top of the table, with Liverpool’s rivals able to go level with a win at home to Aston Villa on Friday evening.
Rosenthal, who played for the Reds in the early 1990s and is remembered for a remarkable miss against Villa in 1992, told Forbes that his former club are still title favourites in his eyes:
It was never expected that Liverpool was going to repeat the last season, finishing with a difference of 20 points.
It’s clear that they can’t do it again, but they can still win the league because on paper they have the strongest team.
The squad, the quality of the players, they are complete. They have quality in every department, that is why they will continue to be the main contender. They are the favourites.

I agree with Rosenthal’s assessment, with Liverpool still the best team in the country, even with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all injured at the moment.
The last two performances have been unquestionably poor, but the Reds are still top of the pile and have another gear to find, especially with Thiago back fit again.
That experience of getting over the finish line last season could also stand Liverpool in good stead, with Jurgen Klopp creating a winning mentality in his players.
