Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier passes away at the age of 73

Former Liverpool manger Gerard Houllier has died at the age of 73, according to Get French Football News on Twitter.

It is believed that Houllier passed away on Sunday evening, with no more information provided yet.

It is devastating news for anyone of a Liverpool persuasion, with Houllier managing the Reds between 1998 and 2004, and proving to be warm human being and a classy figure at Anfield.

Initially taking over as joint-manager with Roy Evans, he eventually took sole charge and won a famous cub treble in 2000/01.

That included League Cup and FA Cup final wins over Birmingham City and Arsenal, as well as an epic UEFA Cup final triumph over Alaves.

Houllier also won the League Cup on 2003 and was the first Liverpool boss to guide them into the Champions League, reaching the quarter-finals in 2001/02.

We wish Gerard’s family all the best at this difficult time – rest in peace, boss.
