Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum has played down suggestions that he could have left the club this summer.
According to a report from Goal, Wijnaldum told reporters after Liverpool’s 4-0 thrashing of West Ham that his future was never in doubt.
I also read that I asked the club if I could leave. I never had a conversation with the club!
People from the outside just see Liverpool are buying players, so [they think] players who are already here are going to leave. Liverpool will always buy good players, even if they already have good players. That’s normal. I think it has to be normal for a club like Liverpool because that means you’re a big club.
But that was something from the media that I was going to Turkey. Maybe because Phillip Cocu is manager and I worked with him for two years. I don’t know who put it in the media, but it wasn’t me!

A number of clubs, including Fenerbahce, were linked with a move for the Dutchman this summer.
Reports claimed that there were concerns over his position within the squad with Naby Keita arriving from RB Leipzig, while Fabinho also joined from AS Monaco.
Wijnaldum was a regular in the Liverpool squad last season, making 33 appearances in the Premier League, but it is yet to be seen what role he will play under Jurgen Klopp this season.
The Dutch international started in a midfield three alongside Naby Keita and James Milner on Sunday in Liverpool’s first game of the season, with Fabinho left on the bench as an injury doubt.
