Henderson keen for Coutinho to stay

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has admitted today that he is keen for Philippe Coutinho to stay put at the club.

The England international addressed the media this evening ahead of his side’s Champions League play-off clash against Hoffenheim tomorrow night. As expected, Coutinho was a major talking point of the press conference.

Henderson, as quoted by the Mirror, said this:

It’s a difficult situation for Phil and whatever I say won’t help matters…but we want Phil to stay because he’s a world class player. I don’t think I can influence the situation but I can have conversations with him.

Jurgen Klopp, too, discussed the Brazilian’s future and stated that while there is a situation ongoing with the former Inter Milan playmaker, his full focus is on Tuesday night’s first leg against Hoffenheim.

Coutinho has been subject to serious interest from Barcelona, and is understood to be keen on the move. He has handed in an official transfer request at Liverpool and appears to be adamant in his stance that he will leave the club this summer.

He’s currently ruled out, rather suspiciously, with a back injury, meaning that he won’t feature in Liverpool’s upcoming fixtures.

Henderson, though, hopes that he will have a change of heart.
