Heskey: Daniel Sturridge needs to leave Liverpool

Despite rumoured interest from a number of Premier League clubs in the summer, Daniel Sturridge rejected the chance to leave Anfield in order to stay and fight for his place in the first-team.

So far, Sturridge, despite being fit, has started just three of nine Premier League games, scoring once in his 10 appearances across all competitions.

Firmly sat behind Roberto Firmino in the striker ranks at Anfield, Sturridge has been starved of game time and one former Red thinks he should leave the club.

Emile Heskey has stated that he believes the England international should move on if he wants to play every week.

He needs more games and any player would say the same. That’s when you get the best out of yourself and enjoy your football.

He needs that right now but Liverpool are obviously not giving it to him so it’s a difficult time for him.

With the system footballers are very adaptable so I don’t see why it should be a problem for Sturridge.

Since that magical 2013/14 season where Liverpool came so close to winning the Premier League and Sturridge scored 22 goals in 29 games, the former Chelsea attacker has struggled for form and fitness.

Over the last three and a bit seasons, Sturridge has played in just 53 Premier League games, scoring 16 goals, hardly the return a title-challenging side would demand from their front-line striker.

Given his poor form, age, injury record and stature within the squad, it seems almost certain that this will be Sturridge’s final season at Anfield.
