Liverpool have been given a welcome boost ahead of their trip to Wembley to face Tottenham this weekend with the news that Gareth Southgate is set to rest Jordan Henderson for England’s friendly clash with Switzerland this evening.
The Liverpool captain played against Spain a few days ago, but he will not start at the King Power Stadium as Southgate takes a look at other options.
However, Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to play from the start against the Swiss, where he could face Liverpool teammate Xherdan Shaqiri.
Henderson has started just one game for the Reds this season, but he is expected to get the nod to lead his team out at Wembley for the early kick-off on Saturday, so the fact he’s getting a rest tonight will come as a bonus.
With Harry Kane, who’ll be facing the Reds at the weekend, also rested, Eric Dier will captain England in the game.
