Jurgen Klopp gives worrying injury update regarding Thiago

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Thiago’s injury is more serious than first thought, acting as a potential major blow for Liverpool.

The Reds host Ajax on Tuesday night, with victory at Anfield sending them into the last-16.

They will be without Thiago, however, who hasn’t played since the 2-2 draw with Everton last month, after being on the receiving end of an awful tackle by Richarlison.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Monday, Klopp revealed the current situation regarding Thiago:

Thiago we have to clarify a little bit. Nothing is ruptured, nothing is broken, but the impact on the leg was that big, it is still not OK.

It’s not massive, he trains from time to time, but it will take some more steps. It will take a few weeks still.

Although Klopp makes it clear that no ligament damage has been suffered, it still looks as though Thiago’s return is some way away.

The Spaniard has only played 135 minutes of action for Liverpool, highlighting how unfortunate he has been so far.

It looks as though he will almost certainly play no part in this week’s games against Ajax and Wolves, but he could be out until closer to Christmas, judging by Klopp’s comments.

The sooner the 29-year-old is back the better, with his world-class presence in midfield huge for Liverpool.
