Jurgen Klopp hints at possible January additions

Through just five games of the new Premier League season, Liverpool already find themselves five points adrift of the two Manchester clubs at the top of the table, something that probably doesn’t sit well with Jurgen Klopp.

As the Reds prepare for the first of two trips to the King Power Stadium this week to take on Leicester, Klopp has told the media that he is happy with how his squad looks going into the Carabao Cup third round clash, but that could change come January.

From today’s perspective, yes [I am happy] – we will see how it is in January.

I think the squad is wide enough to play in different competitions and to come as far as possible and that’s the plan at the moment.

Liverpool brought in just four players in the summer transfer window but spent much of the window chasing Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk but no deal was reached for his transfer despite the Dutchman expressing his desire to leave.

It’s been Liverpool’s defence yet again that has let them down in the early stages of the season, with Klopp struggling to find a reliable centre-back partner for Joel Matip and Nathaniel Clyne’s absence has left a question mark at right-back for the time being.

You can imagine the Reds will revisit a move for van Dijk either in January or at the end of the season, but Klopp could look beyond the former Celtic star for reinforcements in the New Year.
