After yet more defensive problems at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp has explained why Liverpool did not sign a central defender this summer.
As reported by the Metro, speaking after the game, Klopp said he could not find a better alternative to Virgil van Dijk.
The Reds were linked with a move for the Southampton defender throughout the summer, but when it became clear that a move was unlikely, they turned their attention to other areas of the squad.
The Liverpool boss says there were no targets that were better than what they already had.
We watched all of them 500 million times, but what if the new player doesn’t hit the first ball and he makes exactly the same mistake?

It is not that we ignore it. I said if there would have been a solution out there, we would have done it. I had to make a decision and the decision was our boys are not worse than them.
Klopp appears to still be struggling to find his best defensive partnership after more rotation at the back on Saturday.
Both Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip could arguably share a portion of the blame for Scott Arfield’s goal at Anfield, that saw the Reds go behind against Burnley.
