Lazio have made an opening offer of £5m to sign Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva, according to Paul Joyce.
Twitter: Lazio have bid £5m for Lucas Leiva. Player may not now feature in Liverpool’s friendly with Wigan Athletic tonight (@_pauljoyce)
The Brazilian has just one year remaining on his current deal at Anfield and looks set for an exit from the club this summer.
Lucas played a rather important role for Jurgen Klopp last season, filling in for Jordan Henderson in the middle, but he looks set to be offloaded as the Reds make new plans. Naby Keita has been lined up as a signing, which would inevitably spell the end of Lucas’ chances at regular game time if a move comes to fruition.
It was reported last night that Lazio had opened talks over a move for Lucas, and given that a bid has been made, the discussions have presumably been fruitful.
